Director’s message

Celebrating 65 years of committment to our community

In 2023, after a few years with a well-known optical chain, and over a decade as a locum optometrist, I took over J H Peter’s Optometrist, picking up where our founder left off.

As a keen runner I was delighted to discover that J H Peters himself, or Jim, was a celebrated athlete, Olympian, and record holder of note. Jim’s story is one of determination and pride, and a huge inspiration to me and the team.

For us, holding up Jim’s legacy is a way for us to express our values. Jim was determined and committed as both an athlete and as a small business owner serving his community.

He founded the practice in 1959. 65 years later, we intend to honour his efforts by providing the best possible care, service, and experience to our local community.

With his expert advice and great taste for fashion, he helped me choose a great pair of Land Rover sunglasses which I absolutely love. I visited Ali and the team at the weekend. Had a very detailed eye test. Large range of designers glasses at very good prices. Even the more basic frames are of a high quality. Didn’t feel pressured and was given the time needed to choose my frame with the wonderful help of Nandy. Sue then took over and explained all the lens choices that were available to me. The whole experience was 5*****. It was a lovely atmosphere to be part of. And made to feel at ease through the whole process. I went to JH Peters after being referred for diabetic eye screening. I was very impressed with their professionalism and friendly service. Because of this I went back for my regular eye test which confirmed my first impressions. They are incredibly warm, friendly, professional and individualised care, I cannot recommend them highly enough.

I’m not officially a patient here, but when I reached out to them due to a scare with my vision, they couldn’t have been more caring and supportive. I was examined quickly and thoroughly, and it was decided that I needed to go straight to Moorfields in London. As a result, I was able to receive immediate treatment for what could have led to permanent sight loss. I can’t thank JH Peters enough for their support and advice.

I was recommended this opticians from a friend. Wow what a great place very friendly staff. A very thorough sight test with Ali. Explained the sight test in detail aswell what he was recommending for my glasses. The prices are good for an independent opticians. No sales patter. The staff knew their stuff.
